Snowboard Helmet Looks Big!?

so i got this helmet for christmas, and im going snowboarding. i dont think any of my freinds will be wearing one, i wouldnt mind at all if it didnt look so big. im tall and skinny, and wear sort of a skinny jacket. i look like jack in the box with this thing on. should i wear it or not? i dont do jumps and stuff, but i feel bad because my (recently divorced) mom bought it for me. should i wear goggles with it? or stick with glasses?

I’m not a helmet Nazi whatsoever. However, I will say this much… if the helmet fits, just wear it. My motto is:

I rather look stupid with a helmet than not wear one and crash only to end up actually being stupid.

I wear goggles with mine if not to shade the sun, to keep my eyes from freezing.

And please don’t listen to people that tell you to only use it if you are doing more aggressive riding like parks etc… There’s so many other variables here… someone else could crash into you… you can catch an edge and go flying even though you were on a mellow run. I’ve had some of my worst crashes on normal runs.

But whatever. Don’t wear one if you are that worried about what others think. Just realize that you are putting yourself at a bigger risk for a very dumb reason.

I say bigger risk because helmets don’t make you invincible. They are just an extra safety net to reduce the risks of critical injury.

Somewhat intermediate-advanced snowboarding question?

I went out for the first tim in the season yesterday, and it was the first time using my new board I got over the summer. Its a Burton fix 149, which I got for an amazing price ($189). It was great, except for when I started hitting faster speeds. I would start to “bounce” on my edge, and it was mostly my heel edge, so It might be some technique issue I have. I was wondering If there was anything I could do to help fix this, as it is quite uncomfortable.

Pretty sure that’s a park board so if you are going high speeds you will get chatter because the board will be so soft. This is not happening because it is a Burton.
I don’t think there is much you can do about this besides reduce your speed but you could try adjusting your stance (wider) and bending your knees more. I don’t know if this will help you much but doing this seemed to help me a “little” when I was riding my park board at faster speeds.

Snowboarding in Colorado!?

I’m in college and a few of my friends and I are getting together to go snowboard in Colorado!
I need someplace that’s sort of close to Denver since some of us will be flying in.

Vail, Colorado is the best mountain, in my opinion, close to denver. It’s a two hours drive from Denver. In my opinion, it’s the best mountain in the United States. It’s a huge mountain and will definitely take a good week to cover most trails. It also gets really good powder! It’s not too crowded, but all mountains get crowder during the tourist seasons (near Christmas and spring break). Vail has seven back bowls, so if you get there early (via gondola), there’s some amazing powder you can ride through. They have some pretty nice tree trails too. It also has incredible nightlife and a village to hang out in. Their park is really good too! If your a huge park rider, you can always take a short drive over to another mountain.

Vail is right near Beaver Creek (neighboring ski resort), Breckinridge, Keystone, A-basin, and Copper so if you do get tired of Vail, you can go over to another mountain. All of these are top ranked in the world, so you’ll have plenty of good places to snowboard.

edit: Vail can be very affordable. They have a lot of great hotels slightly outside of Vail. In Beaver Creek they have a few motels and chain-hotels that are all definitely under $200 per night. A lot of them offer packages too.

Cycling mask for riding year round? Opinions?

I am a bicyclist and wish to ride year round. Do you have any opinions ona cyclist mask? How cold does it need to be before one will be comfortable? I will be wearing the mask for style, comfort and maybe to help with pollution (not my first worry as the area I bike is nice). Here is an example of what i’m talking about:
