SNOWBOARDING VACATIONS PACKAGES

For a Novice, Which is more effective to Start out With, Snowboarding or Skiing?

Normally, you don’t believe which one is the right answer to your question as in the end it will always remain a matter of personal preference. However, they  have an opinion based on  a personal experience. The Snowboarding is all the rage among young people these days, and becoming even more popular than skiing.

This is likely because riding a Snowboard provides the potential for thrilling tricks and jumps, whereas skiing is traditionally more about simply going down the mountain. While you don’t need to be a daredevil-type snowboarder, the appeal of the sport largely lies in the thrill of the tricks and maneuvers, which can be dangerous. The risk of serious injury while snowboarding is greater than skiing, especially for a fully grown adult with no experience.

The lateral riding position is likely to feel unnatural and presents a risk of twisting on a wipeout and causing serious injury to the knee. Also, a beginner snowboarder will wipeout far more than a skier ever will. If you are careful in your apprenticeship, they would say that you could learn to ski without wiping out more than a small handful of times and with a very low risk of getting hurt.

Ultimately, this is to recommend the Skiing over Snowboarding. To the experienced practitioner, both sports provide equal thrills and opportunities to do tricks and maneuvers. For the beginner, the skiing is the one that will provide you a much lower risk of serious injury.

CHEAP SNOWBOARDING TRIPS
Anyone been snowboarding yet in Japan?

Does anyone have any good snow reports? Where do you recommend thats cheap for a day trip out of Tokyo
http://thejapaneseeye.blogspot.com/

I am a fanatic snowboarder. I check the websites for the specific resorts or weather.yahoo.co.jp for the weather and snow reports. Yahoo.co.jp also provides a link from the weather page to the different snow resorts in Japan. From Tokyo the best or simplest day trip is to the Gala-Yuzawa. You can see their website at www.gala.co.jp. That is the simplest to get to, but not the best resort for a day trip. The Gala-Yuzawa station, is directly under the Gala-Yuzawa resort main lodge. You just have to get off the shinkansen and go upstairs. For a more wider and open area, you can take a shuttle or taxi or the local train to Jouetsu Kokusai resort from the Echigo-Yuzawa station. After February the snow and weather starts to warm up enough that the snow is not so good anymore. My suggestion is go mid week, or you will be standing in lines all day long. The best resort with really good terrain parks and jumps is at Hunter Mountain Shiobara, in Tochigi prefecture. The huge hurdle is access is only bar car or bus. Nagano is an easy day trip from Tokyo, but the reorts are actually another 1 hour bus ride away. For Nagano-Hakuba, I suggest a 2 or 3 day trip.
