What’s the best snowboarding resort near Loveland, CO?
Im looking to go on a snowboarding trip with my girlfriend. its going to be a once in a decade trip, so i want it to be amazing. what is a great skiing/snowboarding resort near Loveland? i dont want to travel too far from there since thats where we are staying in colorado for the trip
Some of the @SS-clowns answering this question don’t seem to realize that the city of Loveland, CO is actually 107 miles from Loveland Ski Area.
That said, Eldora is actually the nearest to Loveland. Here’s their website http://www.eldora.com/
But if you want a once-in a decade trip it’s really not a bad drive (2+ hrs) to Summit County and Vail where all the fancy-schmancy resorts are.

The French Alps are home to some of the most well-known and well-travelled ski resorts in Europe.
Throughout the winter months, France’s more than 100 ski resorts are often filled to near capacity with skiers from around the globe.
The French Alps, Pyrenees Mountains and Vosges offer a wide range of ski possibilities for beginners to advanced skiers. Adrenaline junkies from near and far enjoy the thrill of downhill skiing in the mountains of France.
The most famous ski resort in France is located in the French Alps – Chamonix is the oldest and largest resort in the area.
It was home to the very first Winter Olympic Games in 1924. There, the world’s highest cable car lifts passengers up nearly 12,000 feet to offer amazing views of the almost 16,000 foot peak of Mont Blanc.
Mont Blanc is Europe’s highest peak. In addition to skiing and other winter sports, Chamonix-Mont-Blanc offers great summertime holiday packages. Attractions include folk festivals, a fair, a museum, wooden sculptures, golf, movies, clubs, casinos, bowling, fishing and hunting.
More athletic or adventurous summertime guests can enjoy horseback riding, cycling or mountain bike riding, hiking, river rafting, rock climbing, tennis, swimming and other water sports.
Some of the more ritzy and fashionable resorts include Courchevel, Megeve and Meribel. Courchevel consists of five villages, all at varying altitudes. During the winter ski season it offers snowboarding parks, half-pipe, terrain and cross-country skiing, as well as various downhill skiing options.
All resorts offer great ski instruction for beginners and intermediate skiers looking to improve their skill. During the summer holiday months Courchevel maintains its popularity as a summertime holiday getaway. Some of the more popular summertime activities include golf, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and swimming. Part of Courchevel’s summertime allure is the relaxing atmosphere and amazing scenery.
Winter’s End
Most ski resorts have closed their ski operations in lieu of summertime activities. Many resorts maintain a near-capacity booking, even during the summer.
Throughout the summer, many families enjoy a relaxing summer holiday at various ski resorts. Even during the summer months, Courchevel, Megeve, Meribel and Chamonix often report yearly increases in summertime guests. Ski resorts are available for more than skiers; they’re often considered to be very posh and relaxing summertime holiday spots.
Summertime Skiing in the Alps
Just because it is summer doesn’t mean ski season is over entirely. Ski options still exist during the summer, only not as abundantly as winter time ski options.
Don’t put your skis away until you’ve examined all available summertime ski options. Glacier skiing in the Alps is very popular among die-hard ski enthusiasts. Glacier skiing is available in Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and Whistler-Blackcomb near Vancouver, Canada.
Glacier skiing tends to provide less challenging skiing conditions, but is an opportunity every skier should take advantage of at least once. The snow and ice on glaciers tends to be flat and mushy, not exactly perfect conditions for the adrenaline junkie, but good for those who just love to ski.
Chile’s La Parva and Portillo resorts are popular off-season training areas for many ski teams. New Zealand’s Whakapapa resort offers a ski adventure of a lifetime. It is one of the few resorts in the world that offers the ability to ski down the side of an active volcano.

Best place to buy snowboarding gear in SoCal? This is for a girl and she likes colorful stuff.?
I know of a few places like Big 5, REI, Sports Chalet, the usual. Is there a speciaty store only for snow sports? Remember, I live in Los Angeles so it has to be local. Thanks.
Honestly I’d avoid those big retail stores. They only sell crap, Sure it’ll be cheap and I guess if the person you’re buying it for doesn’t ride very much then it’s fine. But if you’re looking for quality then look for a board shop, They’ll sell the quality gear, and usually around the end of the season they’ll have their 50% off sale on the gear they couldn’t sell that year.
Los Angeles..Biking, Snowboarding…etc..

With over 300 inches of champagne powder falling on its slopes each winter, the Breckenridge Ski Resort certainly sees its share of powder days. However, if you’re unfamiliar with the mountain and its terrain, you probably won’t be locating any secret stashes on such days unless you’re spying on the locals as the duck into the trees in search of fresh turns. If you’re headed to Breckenridge this winter, worry no more. This is your guide to skiing Breck on a powder day.
Breckenridge’s upper lifts don’t fire up along with the lower mountain’s, especially after the resort get buried by a snowstorm. Head to the Beaver Run Superchair on Peak 9 for the day’s first chair. Here, take a few warm-up laps through the Peerless trees or drop into the Needles, located off of Volunteer on Peak 9’s north flank. These runs are sure to warm up your legs for the steeper, deeper terrain on the mountain’s upper reaches.
Peak 10 is also a popular early morning destination, with runs such as The Burn, Mustang and Dark Rider providing glade skiing with serious powder turns. Look for natural jumps with fresh landings on Peak 10’s South side. Be sure to keep your speed up near the bottom of these runs, as the long cat track back to the lift can be an agonizing on deep days.
As the day progresses, you’re likely to hear ski patrol conducting avalanche control on the upper mountain with various explosive devices. This is a good sign that it’s time to head for the T-Bar, 6 Chair and Imperial Express lifts. The Imperial Express offers the highest skiing in North America, topping out at an elevation of 12,840 feet above sea level. Here, take in wide open powder turns in above the tree line in open bowls. The nature of their shape collects plenty of freshly fallen snow. Pay a bit of attention to which way the wind has been blowing to find the slopes that have been covered most generously.
A favorite locals’ run is to ski from the top of the Imperial Express to the bottom of Chair 6, a line that provides steep bowl skiing as well as access to some of Breckenridge’s best glades. Arrive at Chair 6 prior to its opening, as Breckenridge residents will be lining up for their turns well before it opens. The lift is accessed via Frosty’s Freeway from the Peak 8 SuperConnect or the Colorado SuperChair.
Finish your day with a hike to the Windows in search of unskied snow late in the day. The Windows are a 10-15 minute hike from the top of the Mercury SuperChair and offer bowls, chutes, glades and steeps. Drop into runs such as Broadway, Twin Chutes and Double Barrel for untouched powder turns and secret glades. Beware the creek crossings as you reenter the tree line and be sure to stay above the streams while traversing back to E Chair for another lap.
As you wind down the day recounting phenomenal turns over a few drinks with your friends, be sure to watch for clouds rolling in to freshen up the slopes for tomorrow. Take a hot tub at your Breckenridge lodging property to loosen up your muscles for another amazing day of skiing and plan the next day’s assault on the champagne powder.
