Can you give me any Snowboarding tips?
I just went for the first time yesterday and decided to forego the lessons. (ha)
i sort of got the hang of it after 6 hours of falling down. can someone please give me some sound advice that I might pass on to my kids if they too decide to take up snowboarding?
Evan is totally correct. You do yourself a disservice by not taking a lesson. Some places (Like mine) will give you a free beginner lesson if you show up to the lesson bells. They will teach you all the basics that you need to know to get down the hill with the least amount of falling and with the most confidence.
If you would like to continue trying to go it alone then here is a basic setup of how a lesson would progress:
Start with your back foot out of the binding. Go about 10 – 15 feet up a slope (make sure this is a gentle hill and other people will not be coming at you from behind farther up the hill) and then set your back foot on your stomp pad (rubber/plastic pad between bindings) let the board slide a little while you get your balance then place your weight down onto your toes and pick your heels up off the ground. Look UP in the right direction and you will turn right (if your left foot is forward) Now to do the left turn pick up your toes and put weight on your heels looking up behind you and make sure to keep your weight on your front foot (again this is if you are naturally left foot forward, reverse if you are goofy). These turns teach you almost exactly how to get off a chairlift as well as any other time you need to go a short distance and seems silly to strap all the way in, or if going uphill and you need to skate some.
When those feel pretty easy then go up to the top of a gentle bunny slope and strap both feet in. Now work on individually doing turn, Work on toe side and heel side going down the hill in a falling leaf shape pattern (toe turn till you go up the hill and stop, then shift weight onto other foot and go turn across hill uptill you go uphill and stop again, etc etc) Now work on doing the ‘J’ turns from the beginning till you get the hang of those. Then work on putting them together in an S shape turn. To slow yourself down at any time all you have to do is turn. The shape of your turn determines how quick/slowly you slow down.

SSX Tricky $14.99 When Sony released the PlayStation2 last year, there were only a few standout games. One of them, SSX, brought snowboarding to people who didn’t even like snowboarding. Now, only a year later, PS2 fans get a new reason to stay indoors during the cold winter months. SSX Tricky is the game, and it more than lives up to the moniker. Tricky removes two characters from the previous game and adds … |

snowboarding: do i have an advantage?
hi guys,
im going snowboarding in a week and im getting exited. ive never even been skiing before so im really nervous.
i am wondering will i be able to pick it up easily or will it be trickier than i thought.
i skate and i pick things up really easily eg. ice skating (havent fallen over yet)
but im not sure if im getting ahead of myself. my board is going to be rented so i dont even know if i will be able to chose it. what should i get? im hoping to get into tricks like skating so whats the best?
im going to austria (soll) and booked with direct ski.
thanks in advance! ^^
you should have an adavnatge if you already know how to skate and surf, but ill admit, snowboarding is challenging at first, i skate and surf and spent the first half of the day on my ass, but all of a sudden it will click and you wont fall hardly at all.
good luck, youll be fine, just keep in mind that everyone falls, so dont get discouraged, o and remember just go with the fall, dont try to stop yourself with your arms, you can really hurt yourself.
but have fun, and good luck, let me know how it was when you get back.

I want to start snowboarding!?
Do you know of an good videos that show the basics?
Do you have any tips for when I first get started, I can’t take lessons so i’m teaching myself.
Youtube.com has a bunch of instructional videos. When you do go, just dress comfy and warm and be prepared to fall. A lot. But don’t give up because once you get the hang of it it’s totally worth it.
