Winter Olympics: A Must See For Every Sport Lover

The Winter Olympics Games offer just that. Organized every four years, these Olympics are solely dedicated to winter multi-sport events. Officially started in 1901, the Winter Olympic Games present a multitude of games held on snow or ice.These include bobsledding, ice hockey, curling, biathlon, Nordic combined, snowboarding, skeleton, figure skating, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and speed skating. Since the first games, many other athletic events have been added to the Winter Olympics as well as countries that participate in it. Gripping and interesting to the core, each Winter Olympics witnesses an increased fan following.

There are some sports that have a permanent spot on the Olympic schedule, such as short track speed skating, luge, and freestyle skiing. While there are others like bandy, skijoring and speed skiing that are just demonstration sports.

One of the major international events, the 2010 Winter Olympic Games shall be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Held from February 12th till 28th, the games are mostly likely to have an indoor opening ceremony this time. BC Place Stadium shall hold both the opening and closing ceremonies this time. If you’re planning to be there, you are sure to get an exhaustive trip of great venues in Vancouver. Some of these include the Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre, the Pacific Coliseum, the UBC Winter Sports Centre, the Richmond Olympic Oval and Cypress Mountain. Some of the Winter Olympic Games shall be organized in the resort town of Whistler, British Columbia. The competition venues here include the Whistler Olympic Park, the Whistler Sliding Centre and the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort.

Watching the Winter Olympics in person is an experience that is unmatched. But there’s absolutely no need to fret in case you can’t make it for the 2010 games. These games are broadcasted worldwide by numerous television broadcasters. The Winter Olympics is covered in both English and few other languages. Since it is such a huge and celebrated event, you can get all the updates, latest pictures and stories through newspapers and the Internet as well. Infact, such is the popularity of the Winter Olympics that it receives a multi-media coverage ranging from videos, photos, statistics, and a daily Webcast. The Games also find their presence on social networking sites and bookmarking services. The Winter Olympic Games hold a special place in every sports fanatic’s heart, receiving more than a million spectators, both local and foreigners. These games find as much appreciation as the Summer Olympics.
