Snowboarding – just do it !!

I will be taking a 6 week vacation in NZ, Australa, RZA (maybe, had kind of a bad exp in S Africa last time, involving armed robbery!)…anyway, I am planning on doing a lot of snowboarding. Having said this, I was not planning on being able to do it until I get down to Queenstown (NZ), which is a very long distace from my Auckland starting point.

My question is this…Is there a decent place to ski on the Northern Island anywhere? I figure it won’t be Queenstown quality, but a hill with slush on it would be nice over waiting two weeks to get on the board. Any ideas? Cheers!
