GOOD SNOWBOARDING BOOKS
Should we be expected to pay for lodging if friends invited us on trip / vacation?
Our friends invited us to go on a snowboarding trip with them. They got the lodging at a mountain resort for a week as a wedding gift from his parents. It cost his parents $1000 and they want to repay his parents $500 so we offered to pay half of that – $250. Is that good enough since we were invited and we offered to help pay. He has been giving hints and talking to other friends that we should be paying for the entire $500 amount.
Before we decided to go, we asked how much it would be and we were told nothing because it was a wedding gift from his parents. We already got the time off work so we don’t want to back out now. But if we would have known he expected $500 in the beginning we wouldn’t have bothered to book time off and wouldn’t have planned to go.
Should we be offering to pay more or do you think half of what he wants to repay to his parents is good enough?
Be honest. Tell them they told you the trip would be free and that is the only reason you were able to go as you didn’t have extra cash to spare. They can’t go back on their word now. However, you should volunteer to pay for meals.
